KAHAWA
Production + Post Production
Kahawa 1893 is taking the coffee industry by storm, founded by the brilliant Margaret Nyamumbo who grew up on her grandfather’s coffee farm in Kenya.
“Kahawa” means “coffee” in Swahili and 1893 is when their story begins. While coffee’s origins can be traced back to ancient forests in Ethiopia, coffee had to travel around the world before it made its way back to Africa in the late 1800s.
Kahawa supports and empowers black women farmers through sustainable wages and fair trade. Women provide 90% of the labor but own 1% of the land.
Kahawa has appeared on Shark Tank and is growing rapidly.
This project was created with KWANDINOBVA and their fantastic “Ground Up” series focusing on African entrepreneurs.
